The Surah speaks about the persecution of the Believers.
Allah watches over His own people and He will bring His enemies to judgment. The Surah warns the opponents of this message.
Their end might be the same as that of many nations before who denied Allah’s message and persecuted the Believers.

Theme
This Surah warns the disbelievers of the evil consequences of persecution and tyranny and consoles the believers that if they remain firm and steadfast against tyranny and coercion, they will be rewarded for it, and Allah Himself will avenge their persecutors.
In this connection, the story of the people of the ditch (Ashab al-Ukhdud), who had burnt the believers to death by casting them into pits full of fire is related.
By means of this story the believers and the disbelievers have been taught a few lessons:
That just as the people of the ditch became worthy of Allah’s curse and punishment, the chiefs of Makkah are also becoming worthy of it.
That just as the believers at that time had willingly accepted to sacrifice their lives by being burnt to death in the pits of fire instead of turning away from their faith, so also should the believers now endure every persecution and never give up faith.
That Allah, to Whom belongs the Kingdom of the earth and heavens, is Praiseworthy and is watching what the two groups are striving for.
Therefore, the disbelievers will not only be punished in Hell for their disbelief but, in addition to that, they also will suffer punishment by fire as a fit recompense for their tyranny and cruelty.
The believers who are firm in their belief and do good deeds will go to paradise.
This indeed is the supreme success.
Then the disbelievers are warned that Allah’s grip is very severe. If they are proud of the strength of their hosts, they should know that the hosts of Pharaoh and Thamud were even stronger and more numerous.
Therefore, they should learn a lesson from the fate these people of the past met.
No one can escape Allah’s jurisdiction and the Qur’an that they are belying is unchangeable: it is inscribed in the Preserved Tablet, which cannot be destroyed in any way.

Quran 7:121~126

Then I will crucify you all togetherThey said, We have surely to return to our LordFor what fault would you punish us except that we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they appeared to us? O our Lord, pour out patience upon us, and cause us to die as Muslims (those who submit to you.)Quran 7:121~126

Al-A’raf – The Elevations.
Allah mentions Paradise and Hellfire and then speaks of the ‘elevations’ between them reserved for some amongst humanity. These people not knowing what will happen to them. The people of Hell-fire will be refused water as it will be prohibited for the disbelievers in the after-life.

The basic theme of this Surah is Risalah, i.e. Allah’s message as it was sent through many messengers. Several Prophets and parts of their stories are mentioned to emphasize Prophets’ mission and their struggle with their people. The Surah tells us that Allah’s Prophets suffered for the cause of truth. Their enemies tried to harm them, but then Allah helped his prophets and defeated their enemies. The Surah emphasizes that the true message must be presented under all circumstances. After the Prophets it is the duty of the Believers to convey the message of Allah to all people.

Quran 20:42~46

Go forth, you and your brother (Musa & Haroon), with My signs and never falter in remembering Me.Go, both of you, to Pharaoh, for he has truly transgressed ˹all bounds˺.Speak to him gently, so perhaps he may be mindful ˹of Me˺ or fearful ˹of My punishment˺.”They both pleaded, “Our Lord ! We fear that he may be quick to harm us or act tyrannically.”Allah reassured ˹them˺, “Have no fear ! I am with you, hearing and seeing.Quran 20:42~46

The subject matter of the Surah is to assure the Prophet and his followers that the message of the Qur’an will eventually succeed. The story of Prophet Moses is mentioned in detail. Then it is mentioned how the enemies of Islam are opposing it and what will be the consequences of this opposition for them.

˹Consider the Day˺ when they will dispute in the Fire, and the lowly ˹followers˺ will appeal to the arrogant ˹leaders˺, “We were your ˹dedicated˺ followers, will you then shield us from a portion of the Fire?”The arrogant will say, “We are all in it! ˹For˺ Allah has already passed judgment over ˹His˺ servants.”And those in the Fire will cry out to the keepers of Hell, “Pray to your Lord to lighten the torment for us ˹even˺ for one day!”The keepers will reply, “Did your messengers not ˹constantly˺ come to you with clear proofs?” They will say, “Yes ˹they did˺.” The keepers will say, “Then pray! Though the prayer of the disbelievers is only in vain.”

There are seven Surahs (al-Mu’min, HaMim al-Sajdah, al-Shura, al-Zukhruf, al-Dukhan, al-Jathiyah, al-Ahqaf) that begin with the word “HaMim”. Thus these seven Surahs are also called “al-Hawamim”. These are Surahs of Da’wah, inviting people to believe in Allah, take advantage of the mercy of Allah. There is solace and comfort in these Surahs for the Believers who were persecuted because of their faith and they are given the good news that the truth will prevail.
